Shaw Festival Salutes Bernard Shaw's 150th Birthday

To commemorate this milestone, the Festival will host a social garden party with afternoon festivities beginning at 4:30 pm in The Charles and Marilyn Baillie Courtyard of the Festival Theatre. In keeping with Shaw's reputation as a teetotaler, guests will be treated to light refreshments as well as live music by The Shaw's own String Quartet, recitations of a selection of infamous Shaw quotes by members of the Ensemble and, of course, birthday cake. Shaw Festival's Artistic Director Jackie Maxwell and Executive Director Colleen Blake will host this delightful celebration. 

For forty-five seasons, the Shaw Festival has delighted theatre audiences with an array of diverse and eclectic plays by Bernard Shaw and his contemporaries, and plays about the period of Shaw's lifetime. The Shaw is the only theatre in the world which specializes in such a defined historical period, and is renowned internationally for single-handedly revitalizing and re-energizing these works through the collective expertise of one of the finest acting ensembles in the English-speaking world.
