National Ballet of Canada 2017/18 Season Roster Announced

Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, today announced the roster for the 2017/18 season.

The 2017/18 season features a company of 68 dancers and 10 RBC Apprentices. Promoted this season are Emma Hawes, Hannah Fischer and Brendan Saye to First Soloist and Félix Paquet and Ben Rudisin to Second Soloist.

Joining the company's Corps de Ballet this season are Jimmy Coleman, Peng Fei Jiang, Mallory Mehaffey, Siphesihle November and Chae Eun Yang.

Joining the RBC Apprentice Programme this season are Hannah Galway, Alexandra Hall, Nico Janssen, George Liang, Teagan Richman-Taylor and Alexander Skinner.

In addition to its 22 Canadian-born dancers, the National Ballet has 19 different countries represented on its roster including Australia, China, Italy, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa, South Korea, Russia and the U.S.

Celebrating her 20th anniversary with the company is Principal Character Artist Stephanie Hutchison. Ms. Hutchison joined the company in 1997 and was promoted to Principal Character Artist in 2015. Known for her dramatic flair and comedic timing, Ms. Hutchison's repertoire includes the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet and The Queen in Swan Lake to name a few.

The 2017/18 season begins with the company touring to Paris, France with John Neumeier's Nijinsky at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, October 3 - 8 and to London, England with Robert Binet's The Dreamers Ever Leave You at The Printworks, Canada Water, October 12 - 13. In Toronto, the season opens with The Winter's Tale, November 10 - 19, followed by Nijinsky, November 22 - 26 at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.
