In the past week, the arts in Canada have lost two bright lights in Stuart McLean and Richard McMillan.

In the time-honoured theatrical tradition, the marquee lights of all four Mirvish Theatres - the Royal Alexandra, the Princess of Wales, the Ed Mirvish and the Panasonic - will have their lights dimmed at the traditional curtain time, 8 PM, on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.

David Mirvish comments: "Two great artists who enriched our lives greatly. We are saddened by their passing but very grateful for their work on and off the stage. They were taken from us too soon. We will miss them dearly."

Stuart McLean, a beloved writer, broadcaster and performing artist, passed away on February 15, 2017. He had performed 10 sold-out shows of his VINYL CAFE CHRISTMAS at the Royal Alexandra Theatre in December 1998.

Richard McMillan was one of the country's finest actors. He passed away February 19, 2017. Among his numerous credits are: the original Scar in the Canadian production of Disney's THE LION KING, at the Princess of Wales Theatre; creating the role of Saruman in the world premiere of the stage adaptation of THE LORD OF THE RINGS, also at the Princess of Wales; the role of Uncle Arthur in the Canadian premiere of War Horse, at the Princess of Wales; and Father O'Donnell in Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE BOYS IN THE PHOTOGRAPH, at the Royal Alexandra Theatre. He also starred as Pooh Bah in BrIan MacDonald's production of Gilbert and Sullivan's THE MIKADO (originally produced by the Stratford Festival of Canada), which David and Ed Mirvish presented at the the Royal Alexandra in Toronto, the Old Vic in London and at the Virginia Theatre on Broadway in New York.
