Matthew Jocelyn, the incoming Artistic and General Director of The Canadian Stage Company and acclaimed director of theatre and opera on the world stage, is slated to direct Lucia di Lammermoor at Oper Frankfurt, an internationally renowned showcase for opera, next month.

Jocelyn will be directing Donizetti's tragic opera Lucia di Lammermoor at Oper Frankfurt, May 8 to 31, 2009. The production stars Christine Schäfer as Lucia, and Matthew Polenzani as Edgardo. Jocelyn originally directed the production for Oper Frankfurt in October/November 2008. The popular production is slated to return in Oper Frankfurt's 2009/2010 season.

Originally from Toronto, Matthew Jocelyn is The Canadian Stage Company's incoming Artistic and General Director. Based in Europe until recently, he is an internationally acclaimed director of theatre and opera, a producer and an arts administrator. He was the Artistic and General Director of the Atelier du Rhin in Alsace, France, for the past 10 years. He was responsible for establishing the organization as a major centre for theatre, opera and contemporary dance - the only multi-disciplinary artistic centre of its kind in France - and for launching the Jeunes Voix du Rhin, an internationally recognized training centre for young singers. He was named Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres (Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters), by the French Ministry of Culture in July 2008, one of the country's most prestigious arts honours.

Matthew Jocelyn was a guest director at Canada's Stratford Shakespeare Festival where he received critical acclaim for his unique staging of Pierre Corneille's The Liar (Le menteur) in 2006. He is also an educator who has held positions at the University of Toronto, the American University of Paris and the Université de Toulouse-le Mirail, and more recently at the Conservatoire National Supérieure d'Art Dramatique in Paris.

Jocelyn assumed his new role at The Canadian Stage Company part-time in March 2009 in order to fulfill existing obligations such as Lucia di Lammermoor. He becomes Artistic and General Director full-time in July 2009.
