THE LION KING Singapore: Auditions For Filipino Children, 9/5

Base Entertainment Asia ('Jersey Boys', 'Defending the Caveman') and Singapore Repertory Theatre ('Golden Child', 'Into the Woods') are holding auditions for Filipino and Singaporean young talents, ages 8 to 13, to fill the roles of young cubs Simba and Nala in the Southeast Asian premiere of Disney Theatrical Group's 'The Lion King'. Auditions will be held on Sunday, September 5, 2010 from 2 p.m. onwards at the Singapore Repertory Theatre, Robertson Walk #02-08, 11 Unity Street, Singapore 237995. Singing and dancing experience is required.

Lead producer Michael Cohl today announced the complete cast for SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark, which begins rehearsals this morning. Directed by Julie Taymor and featuring a book by Julie Taymor and Glen Berger, and new music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark will begin previews at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre (213 West 42nd Street) on November 14, with opening night set for December 21.

The New York Times has just announced that rehearsals for the much-delayed and much anticipated SPIDER-MAN: Turn Off the Dark, will officially begin on August 16, 2010. According to the report, some choreography and aerial flying lessons began on Monday for some of the cast, including Spidey himself, Reeve Carney.

Broadway's Hilton Theatre to Be Renamed as Foxwoods Theatre

Foxwoods Resort Casino, the East Coast's premier resort casino destination, and Live Nation, the world's largest live music company, today announced a multi-year agreement that grants Foxwoods the exclusive naming rights to the former Hilton Theatre on Broadway's historic 42nd Street in New York's Times Square (originally the Ford Center for the Performing Arts). Beginning today, the venue will be called the Foxwoods Theatre. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The New York Film Festival has announced that this year's festival will open with 'The Social Network,' written by Aaron Sorkin (THE FARNSWORTH INVENTION, A FEW GOOD MEN) and directed by David Fincher. The film stars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake. 'The Social Network' focuses on Mark Zuckerberg, the creator of Facebook.

Taymor's TEMPEST to Highlight NY Film Fest., Oct. 2

As BroadwayWorld has previously reported, Julie Taymor is at the helm of a new film adaptation of THE TEMPEST, to be released this December. The film was shot in Hawaii with stars Helen Mirren (Prospera), Alfred Molina (Stephano), Ben Whishaw (Ariel), Felicity Jones (Miranda), Russell Brand (Trinculo), Djimon Hounsou (Caliban), Alan Cumming (Sebastian), Chris Cooper (Antonio), and David Strathairn (Alonso). The New York Times reports today that the film will in fact be the main attraction at this year's New York Film Festival, presented by the Film Society of Lincoln Center in October. The film will get a special screening on October 2, 2010 at Alice Tully Hall.

Taymor's 'Tempest' Film Starring Mirren Closes Venice Film Festival

SPIDER-MAN Gets New PR Representative in Rick Miramontez

SPIDER-MAN has made headlines again. The New York Times reports that press agent Adrian Bryan-Brown of Boneau/Bryan-Brown has cut ties with Broadway's upcoming SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK. Bryan-Brown's Thursday statement noted that he 'made the personal decision to resign this week,' and looked forward to seeing the production on Broadway. He has been working on the show for the past three years. The lead producer of the show, Michael Cohl, has accepted the resignation and appointed Rick Miramontez, president of firm O&M, to head future press for SPIDER-MAN.

In an interview with Examiner out yesterday, Reeve Carney reveals that SPIDER-MAN is indeed gearing up for rehearsals at last, beginning on August 10, 2010. Currently on tour with the UK band, Athlete, Carney's band, Carney, will play a final show in Chicago for 'Taste of Chicago' on July 4th and together head to New York to begin rehearsals for the show. The three additional members of the Carney band will play in SPIDER-MAN's orchestra pit.

Financial troubles and a makeover of the producing team has delayed the opening to an undetermined date next season.
