2025 AWARDS SEASON

Three renowned achievers will be honored for their lifetime accomplishments with the 35th Annual Common Wealth Awards of Distinguished Service. The awards recognize individuals who have enriched modern culture through their professional and personal endeavors.

Months of anticipation for hundreds of local high school students is about to reach a fever pitch. On March 18th at 7:00 AM, students from 19 local high schools will gather on the Long Center City Terrace, where officials will announce the nominees for the inaugural Greater Austin High School Musical Theater Awards. Attending students are encouraged to show up on the terrace with signs and plenty of school spirit as they cheer their respective schools on. This announcement is the kick-off to the extraordinary, Tony's-style awards ceremony one month later, on April 17th.

The 29th Annual Bistro Awards gala, set to take place tonight, March 4, has announced two new presenters. Stephen Schwartz, the Oscar, Tony, Grammy, and Golden Globe-winning composer/lyricist, who wrote the scores to such musicals as Pippin, Wicked, Godspell, and The Magic Show, will present Ben Vereen, the Tony Award-winning actor-singer-dancer, with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 86th Annual Academy Awards, hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, are tonight, March 2, 2014, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live on the ABC Television Network.

Film Independent, the nonprofit arts organization that produces the Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival, handed out top honors to 12 Years a Slave, Dallas Buyers Club and Nebraska at this afternoon's 29th Film Independent Spirit Awards. Blue Jasmine, Fruitvale Station, Blue is the Warmest Color, Short Term 12, This is Martin Bonner and 20 Feet From Stardom also received awards at the ceremony, which is held in a tent on the beach in Santa Monica.

The 22nd Annual Movieguide Awards will air on Reelz today, March 1, 2014 at 2pm ET/ 11am PT, with an additional broadcast on Oscar Day, Sunday, March 2 at 2pm ET/ 11am PT.

In a new move for the theater industry, the Tony Awards administration committee has voted to give nominators the option to expand the four major awards categories - musical, musical revival, play, and play revival - from four nominees, to five.

The Long Center's Michael & Susan Dell Hall will be the scene for a spectacular new awards show, honoring the achievements of students in high school theater departments in Travis and the 6 contiguous counties. The Long Center, University of Texas at Austin and ZACH Theatre will be honoring their exceptional work with the 2014 Greater Austin High School Musical Theatre Awards (GAHSMTA) on April 17. Tony Award winner, Academy Award® nominated and Golden Globe-winning actor Hugh Jackman returns to host THE 68TH ANNUAL TONY AWARDS live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Sunday, June 8 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. This will be Jackman's fourth time hosting the Tony Awards. He previously hosted the 57th, 58th, and 59th Annual Tony Awards. Jackman received an Emmy Award for hosting the 58th Annual Tony Awards in the category of Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program.

The winners of the 64th annual ACE Eddie Awards were announced last night, February 7, 2014. In the category of one-hour drama for commercial TV, BREAKING BAD nearly swept the nominations, receiving four out of the five, and winning the award for Best Edited One-Hour Series. The Wagner College Theatre has announced that the winner of this year's Stanley Drama Award is Jennifer Maisel of Los Angeles for her play, "Out of Orbit." Two finalists for this year's award were also announced: Chelsea Sutton of North Hollywood, Cal., for "The Dead Woman," and Sam Byron of New York City for "Gordy Crashes."

The biggest annual celebration of Indian theatre, Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Awards (META) has announced the Jury panel and nominees for its 9th edition. The 8 shortlisted productions, out of which 3 are in English, 2 in Hindi, 2 in Malayalam and 1 Multilingual will perform live at the 2014 META Festival. The festival will start from March 4th - 8th, 2014 in the capital and the Awards will be announced on March 9th, 2014. The eminent Jury of META 2014 consisting of Mr. Kulbhushan Kharbanda, Ms. Shabana Azmi, Mr. Shyam Benegal, Ms. Swati Bhise and Mr. Utkarsh Mazumdar will view and judge the shortlisted plays.

The American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.)'s world premiere production of musical WITNESS UGANDA, which begins performances tonight, February 4, is the winner of the 2014 Richard Rodgers Production Award for Musical Theater. The award was announced yesterday by the American Academy of Arts and Letters, which administers the Richard Rodgers Awards.
