Traditional Country Artist John Anderson Comes to Thousand Oaks

By:

Country star John Anderson brings his unique voice and down to earth narratives to the Scherr Forum on Sunday, February 12, 2017 at 7:30 pm.

Anderson has one of the most instantly recognizable voices in the history of country music. The singer/songwriter has charted more than 40 singles on the country music charts, including five Number Ones: "Wild and Blue," "Straight Tequila Night," "Black Sheep," "Swingin'" and "Money in the Bank."

Anderson was born in Apopka, FL, in 1955 and grew up listening to rock & roll, until he discovered country music at age 15 through Merle Haggard. He moved to Nashville in the early '70s, showing up at his sister's house with no warning, and worked a variety of odd jobs (including one as a roofer for the Grand Ole Opry) while playing clubs at night. Eventually, all the hard work paid off with a contract for Warner Bros., and Anderson released his first single in 1978. His self-titled debut album appeared in 1980 and helped signal the rise of the new traditionalist movement, drawing critical praise as well.

Anderson continued to record steadily and mounted a major comeback in the early '90s, starting with 1992's Seminole Wind. Its title track went to number two, and the follow-up, "Straight Tequila Night," went all the way to number one.

On his latest album Goldmine, released on his own Bayou Boys label, Anderson has completed a long overdue record of original songs. The award-winning songwriter wrote or co-wrote 12 of the album's 13 tracks. That will bring joy to the hearts of some of the most devoted fans in country music. Though he would never compare himself to his heroes, the fact is, John Anderson is now the standard-bearer for traditional country music.

Taking the stage for one show only, Anderson performs an acoustic show of new material and his top hits inspired by his true country music roots.
