The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division Theatre Department Presents EURYDICE

By:

The Pepperdine University Fine Arts Division Theatre Department will present Eurydice by Sarah Ruhl at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 24 through Friday, January 27 at 7:30 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee and 7:30 p.m. evening show on Saturday, January 28, at the Malibu campus' Lindhurst Theatre.

Tickets, priced at $15 for the public, $10 for full-time Pepperdine students, and $12 for Pepperdine faculty and staff, are available now by calling (310) 506-4522 or online at http://arts.pepperdine.edu/. More information: http://arts.pepperdine.edu/events/theatre-eurydice.htm

A modern telling of the Orpheus myth, Eurydice takes you on a journey to the hereafter. With its chorus of talking stones and its tricycle-riding Lord of the Underworld, this afterlife may as well be Alice's Wonderland. After taking a dip in the River of Forgetfulness, Eurydice stumbles upon her deceased father, only to mistake him for a hotel bellman. Over time, father and daughter fight the natural order of death itself to rediscover their primal bond. But when a lovelorn Orpheus descends into the underworld to retrieve his beloved, Eurydice must make a difficult choice.

Pepperdine Assistant Professor of Theatre Hollace Starr directs the Pepperdine student cast which features Billy Baker, Sarah Barney, Alden Bettencourt, Olive Bieni, Will Craig, Alexandra Garret, and Brandon Ruiz.

"Eurydice is a tender play that explores our capacity for both steadfast love and deep loss," says Professor Starr. "It is funny, sad, strange, and wonderful. It's been a joy to work on!"

The New Yorker's John Lahr describes Ruhl's work as "full of astonishments, surprises, and mysteries," and the Pepperdine production supports this imaginative script with lighting design by Pepperdine Visiting Assistant Professor of Theatre Production Ben Pilat, sound design by John Zalewski, scenic design by Maureen Weiss, costume design by Pepperdine student Brittney Rivera, and choreography by Pepperdine Adjunct Professor of Theatre and Dance Kelly Todd.

There is no late seating allowed. Join a talkback with the actors and director after the Wednesday performance.
