THE ROAD THEATRE COMPANY and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director are thrilled to announce that the first show of its 2017-2018 season, the smash-hit, critically acclaimed world premiere of STUPID KID, written by acclaimed playwright Sharr White (The Other Place) and directed by Cameron Watson (Cat on A Hot Tin Roof).

STUPID KID is EXTENDING through SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 at the Road Theatre on Magnolia, located in The NoHo Senior Arts Colony, 10747 Magnolia Blvd. in North Hollywood. After 14 years in prison for a crime he swears he didn't commit, Chick returns home to find his flat-broke family under the thumb of his dangerous Unclemike. A rollicking Gothic Western tale of a family isolated by shame, STUPID KID explores power, guilt and the limits of maternal love.

Sharr White (Playwright) White's The Other Place was seen at The Road Theatre Company in 2015, with Taylor Gilbert, directed by Andre Barron. The Other Place premiered Off-Broadway at MCC Theatre with Laurie Metcalf (Lucille Lortel and Obie awards, best actress), directed by Joe Mantello, and subsequently moved to Broadway as a co-production with Manhattan Theatre Club (Tony nom for Laurie Metcalf, best actress). White's The Snow Geese premiered on Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club, co-produced with MCC Theatre, with Mary Louise Parker, directed by Daniel Sullivan. White's Annapurna premiered in Los Angeles at the Odyssey theatre, with Megan Mullally and Nick Offerman, directed by Bart DeLorenzo, and moved Off-Broadway with The New Group. Stupid Kid is the second in a planned trilogy of Colorado plays (Annapurna was the first), and was originally commissioned by Steppenwolf Theatre Company. A percentage of all profits from Stupid Kid will benefit The Innocence Project. White is a writer/producer for Showtime's The Affair.

CAMERON WATSON (Director) recently directed the critically-acclaimed revival of Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof at Antaeus Theatre Company, where he also directed the smash-hit productions of Picnic and Top Girls. He directed the world premieres of The Super Variety Match Bonus Round at Rogue Machine Theatre and Dream Catcher at The Fountain Theatre. Other credits include c*ck(Rogue Machine Theatre) All My Sons (The Matrix Theatre Company), Trying, Grace & Glorie and The Savannah Disputation (The Colony Theatre), I Never Sang for My Father (The New American Theatre), I Capture the Castle and A Midsummer Night's Dream (The Shakespeare Theatre of New Jersey) and Rolling with Laughter in London's West End. Cameron wrote and directed the Miramax feature film Our Very Own, starring Allison Janney in an Independent Spirit Award-nominated performance alongside Keith Carradine, Jason Ritter, Beth Grant, Dale Dickey and Mary Badham. He created the new comedy series Break a Hip, starring Christina Pickles, now available at www.breakahip.com.

STUPID KID features Ben Theobald as Chick, Joe Hart as Eddie, Rob Nagle as Unclemike, Taylor Gilbert as Gigi, Allison Blaize as Hazel and Michelle Gillette as Frannie Hawker. The Design Team for STUPID KID is as follows: Set Design by Jeff McLaughlin; Lighting Design by Jared Sayeg; Sound Design by Chris Moscatiello; Costume Design by Kate Bergh. There will be no performances over the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend. Performances are Fridays at 8pm; Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2pm. Ticket prices are $34; Students and Seniors are $17.50.
