Cabrillo Music Theatre to Present COMEDY TONIGHT: FINDING THE FUNNIEST COMIC ON THE WAY TO THE 'FORUM!'
There are slews of hungry, talented, still-unknown comedians in our community! That's why comedian Jason Love and Cabrillo Music Theatre have partnered to find the comic jewels with COMEDY TONIGHT: FINDING THE FUNNIEST COMIC ON THE WAY TO THE "FORUM!" One local, and very funny, comedian will win a chance to perform a 10-minute stand-up set preceding a selected performance of Cabrillo Music Theatre's upcoming A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, which makes its Civic Arts Plaza debut January 29 through February 14th.
The COMEDY TONIGHT: FINDING THE FUNNIEST COMIC ON THE WAY TO THE "FORUM!" competition will unfold in two parts! Part one: All interested comedians MUST submit their names, contact information and YouTube link to Info@CabrilloMusicTheatre.com. All submissions will be reviewed, and 8 finalists will be selected and announced on January 13th. Part Two: All 8 finalists must be available to perform a live, 5-minute set during the big Mic-Off Finale on Sunday, January 17th to take place at Muvico Movie Theater, located at 166 W Hillcrest Dr, Thousand Oaks, CA 91360. The winner of COMEDY TONIGHT: FINDING THE FUNNIEST COMIC ON THE WAY TO THE "FORUM!" will be determined that evening by judges Jason Love, Nick Santa Maria (star of Cabrillo's ...FORUM), plus others to be announced. The cast of FORUM will be present, and the evening will be capped with a performance by Comedian Tom Clark.
"I actually started out in acting and only became a comedian because I wasn't very good at it," says Jason Love. "So I'm excited to work with and pretend to be contemporaries of Cabrillo Music Theatre, the BMW of production companies." Adds Cabrillo Music Theatre's Artistic Director, Lewis Wilkenfeld, "Stand-up is one of the pillars of comedy, and A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is a perfect show to pair with live, stand-up comedians." Says Wilkenfeld, "Putting all these comics in a room, together with Jason Love, Tom Clark, and the cast of Cabrillo's FORUM, should make for a lively evening of comedy!"
The live Mic-Off Finale will be a chance for Cabrillo audiences and stand-up comedy lovers to come together to cheer for and laugh at the best of what Ventura's comedy community has to offer. What better way for the two worlds to support one another, than by bringing stand-up to musical theatre, and musical theatre to stand-up?! Admission is FREE but seating is limited!
