mad Theatre's CABARET Opens 6/9
mad Theatre of Tampa, a resident musical theatre company at the Straz Center, is proud to announce the opening of the Tony award-winning musical Cabaret on June 9, 2016 at the Shimberg Playhouse at the Straz Center.
With direction by Clareann Despain and music direction by Peter A. Belk, this sexually progressive and politically relevant landmark musical by Kander and Ebb details the end of an era. With a playful and profound depiction of the early days of the Nazi's rise to power in Germany, Cabaret focuses on the free-spirited world of Berlin's nightclub scene. Using historical cross-dressers and 1920s Berlin drag clubs as inspiration, mad Theatre of Tampa's gender-bending production reimagines musical favorites such as "Don't Tell Mama," "Mein Herr," "Two Ladies," and, of course, "Cabaret" in ways that are sure to satisfy fans of the originals and delight those seeking a new take on old favorites.
Broadway World named mad Theatre the Best Community Theater Company in 2014 & 2015. This production stars Aaron Castle, Lauren Buglioli, Eric Lamont Newman, Miranda Harrison-Quillin, Donald B. Holt, Jr., Jay Morgan, Dionne Christian, Zach Griswold with Kidany Camilo, Kandyce Walker, Abraham Bell, Erin Hooten Coalson, Iris Moon, Dwayne Cline, Topher Warren, Mike McGee Kleinschmidt, Wyatt Babington, Kevin Lara, Pablo Alameda, Abraham Bell and Peter A. Belk.
