Megan Lamasney, Amanda Buck, Landon Green & Sheila Cowley Set for TAMPA WRIGHTS 1: ONE-ACT PLAYS, May 3-20

By:

Tampa Wrights 1: One-Act Plays by Tampa playwrights opens on Thursday, May 3rd and plays Thursdays through Sundays until May 20th at the Silver Meteor Gallery in Ybor City. Presented by TRT2, Tampa Repertory Theatre's incubator company, the evening includes five short plays by four playwrights: "Apart Together," by Megan Lamasney; "Something Old," by Amanda Buck; "The Imaginary Man," by Landon Green; and "Almost Like Croatia" and "Wait," both by Sheila Cowley.

The five plays present a varied palette. In "Apart Together" a man and a woman find themselves in new emotional territory after an unexpected event. "Something Old," explores a young woman's worries on the eve of her wedding that in throwing out something old, she might be losing something precious. "The Imaginary Man" finds a young man projecting a needed mentor into his hand – and talking to it (and it talks back). In "Almost Like Croatia," two men in a dire situation make light of life and death and come to grips with some buried truths. Lastly, in "Wait," a young woman returns to the same restaurant for a series of encounters with the men in her life.

Tampa Wrights will be TRT2's third production, following last fall's Musings of a "Postmodern" Romantic (a performance piece based on a poem sequence by local poet Christopher Hawthorne) and the recent presentation of Moliere's classic comedy, Tartuffe. Matthew Ray (co-director of Tartuffe) and Greg Milton (who played Orgon) share the directing duties for Tampa Wrights. Matt directs "Something Old" and "Wait," while Greg takes charge of "Apart Together," "The Imaginary Man," and "Almost Like Croatia." The cast for the evening includes Danielle Calderone, Amanda Miles, David McElroy II, David Barrow, and Matthew Frankel. Danielle and David Barrow both appeared in Tartuffe; Amanda and David McElroy are making their Tampa Rep debuts, as is Matt Frankel – at least, as an actor (he co-directed Tartuffe; he and Matt Ray serve as the co-producing directors of TRT2).

Performances for Tampa Wrights will be at 8PM Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 3PM on Sundays. Admission is $15. Tickets are available at www.tamparep.org, or at the door (seating is limited, so reservations – to reservations@tamparep.org – are recommended). Patrons who purchase tickets to Tampa Wrights will also receive a 50% discount to tickets to A Streetcar Named Desire (opening June 7th in the Studio Theatre at HCC Ybor City).

On May 21 Tampa Repertory will also be holding "Eat and Greet: A Tampa Repertory Theatre Fundraiser" at the Carmel Café in Carrollwood. Tickets are $75 and include a buffet sampler of flatbreads and luscious spreads, and a seat at A Streetcar Named Desire.
