Chester Gregory to Star in 'THE EVE OF JACKIE WILSON' 1/19 at the Palladium
"The Eve of Jackie Wilson: A Musical Look at the R&B Legend," starring Broadway's Chester Gregory, comes to the Palladium's Hough Hall (253 Fifth Avenue North, St. Petersburg, FL) on Monday, January 19 at 8 p.m. Presented by the Palladium and Real Music.
Chester Gregory is a Broadway veteran who brings Jackie Wilson to life. Gregory is the star and producer of The Eve of Jackie Wilson.
"This show is a look at Jackie Wilson the evening before he collapsed on stage," said Gregory. "This is one evening of him in real time, in concert. This performance is, literally, the performance of his life -- his last complete performance."
Gregory is well-suited to play the iconic Wilson; he was seen on Broadway as Eddie Souther (a lead role) in Sister Act and as Seaweed in Hairspray. A member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Hackie Wilson notched more than 20 Top 40 pop-chart hits in America between 1958 and 1968. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Wilson suffered a heart attack in 1975 while peforming at a New Jersey casino. The singer died in 1984 at age 49. Rolling Stone ranked Wilson No. 69 on its list of Rock 'n Roll's all-time greatest artists.
