Broadway Theatre Project's (BTP) Director of Dance Herman Payne just wrapped up a three-week intensive program at New World Schools of Arts College of Dance in Miami, Florida and will join BTP in July.

A Juilliard graduate, Herman Payne is currently a faculty member of the Miami City Ballet and has performed with the Aspen Ballet and also appeared in the international tours of Fosse and West Side Story, 9 to 5 on Broadway, The New York City Center Encores! production of The Wiz, House of Flowers, Pajama Game, Radio City Christmas Spectacular (2000 - 2012) and Michael Jackson's 30th Anniversary Special.

Besides Michael Jackson, Payne has worked with Mariah Carey, Usher, Mya, Destiny's Child, Whitney Houston, Deborah Cox, Thalia, Tony Moran, Lisa Lisa, Kevin Aviance, Love INC and Camp LO.

"Herman is a flawless professional and his passion for teaching dance resonates with our students who come away from BTP with a lift in confidence and a greater appreciation for the art form," said BTP Artistic Director, Debra McWaters.

BTP is an annual 3-week institute created with a mission to further develop the key disciplines of musical theatre; acting, voice and dance, as well as the critical life skills required for the world of professional theatre.

Emphasis is not only placed on the individual art forms but also the collaborative process. BTP endeavors not only to provide educational excellence but also to mold a well-balanced, musical theatre performer and professional.

Dozens of highly successful Broadway stars and directors have been involved with BTP throughout the years, which has also been fertile ground for experimental work. "It is no easy feat to gather a group of artists who are also adept at transmitting information innovatively and with patience," said McWaters. "At BTP, are lucky to host working artists who are also talented teachers and have a passion for sharing their knowledge with those coming into the field."

This year, other visiting artists and faculty include: Austin Pendleton (Actor, Director, Playwright), Chazz Palminteri (Actor, Playwright), Todrick Hall (Singer, Songwriter, Dancer, Actor, Choreographer, Playwright), Pat Birch (Choreographer, Director), (Jason Samuels-Smith (Dancer, Choreographer), Gianna Palminteri (Actor, Producer, Writer), Donna McKechnie (Actor, Dancer), Peisha McPhee (Vocal Coach) and Michael Orland (Vocal Coach).
