American Stage Theatre Company Set for REEFER MADNESS!!!, 4/9-4/12
REEFER MADNESS!!!, based on the Cult 1936 film, is a town hall meeting warning "Marijuana is Public Enemy #1!". Join Dr. Alfred Carroll and a troupe of actors as they reenact what happens when College Students get hooked on Marijuana given to them by diabolical dope dealers: car accidents, manslaughter, suicide, rape, and descent into madness - REEFER MADNESS!!! Playing six performances only, this limited engagement stars Katie Castonguay, Jan Ray, Michael Titone, and T. Scott Wooten as Dr. Alfred Carroll as they prepare for their trip to the Orlando International Fringe Theatre Festival in May. The St. Petersburg Times described this zany send up of the original film as "fast paced and intentionally ridiculous" while Creative Loafing stated, "you'll get high on this parody". REEFER MADNESS!!! THE PLAY!!! is produced by Economic Stimulus Productions, following the success of An Evening with the Friends of Dorothy: A Judy Garland Cabaret, and The Lady is a Tramp: Women Sing Rodgers and Hart. Independent Theatre can be a financial burden to produce, but thanks to The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 signed into law by President George W. Bush, Producers Julie Rowe and T. Scott Wooten decided against buying stuff and instead pooled their tax rebate checks together to produce live theatre. REEFER MADNESS!!! THE PLAY!!! will be performed on the following schedule: April 9 - 12; Friday and Saturday at 11pm, Sunday and Monday at 7:00 and 9:00pm. Performances will take place in the Susan R. Hough Lobby at American Stage Theatre Company, 163 Third Street North, St. Petersburg. Tickets are "Pay What You Can". There will be a cash bar, $2-PBR, $1-Jello shots, and Doritos & Brownies every night. Reservations can be made by calling 727/823-7529.
