Living in Truth: An Evening of Short Plays by Václav Havel and a Conversation on Civil Courage on at Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation

Join the Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation for a free afternoon of theater and discussion honoring the 90th birthday of Czech playwright, dissident, and statesman Václav Havel.

The event will feature staged readings of several of Havel’s short plays, including Audience, Protest, and Dozens of Cousins, followed by a public talkback exploring Havel’s idea of “living in truth” and its relationship to moral compromise, resistance, and civil courage.

Through humor, absurdity, and moral tension, Havel’s plays ask enduring questions: What does it mean to tell the truth when silence is easier? How do ordinary people respond to systems that demand conformity? When does private refusal become public resistance?

Following the readings, audience members will be invited to join a conversation connecting Havel’s theatrical and dissident legacy to the work of the Rosenstrasse Civil Courage Foundation and the Rosenstrasse protest.
