Today Rolex announced that acclaimed director Peter Sellars has selecTed Maya Zbib of Lebanon as his protégé for the 2010-11 Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative. The program gives exceptional young talents in dance, music, visual arts, theater, literature, and film the opportunity of a lifetime-to work with a master in their field for a year of creative collaboration. Over the next year Sellars and Zbib will spend up to several months together, exchanging ideas and engaging in an extended dialogue about their art form. The other five protégés (profiled below) include another artist from the Middle East, two from Australia, one from South Africa, and one from the United States. Joining Sellars as a 2010-11 Rolex Mentor are Trisha Brown, Brian Eno, Anish Kapoor, Hans Magnus Enzensberger and Zhang Yimou.

For over a decade, Lebanese actor, writer and aspiring director Maya Zbib, 29, has been impressing critics with her subtle portrayals in widely diverse roles. Having acquired a Master's in Performance Making in 2007 from the University of London, Zbib has created and performed in solo work, including The Music Box, a performance-installation staged in people's houses and showcased at international festivals. She currently co-manages Beirut's Zoukak Theatre Company and Cultural Association, which she co-founded in 2006, and also teaches at Lebanese University's Institute of Fine Arts.

Peter Sellars is renowned worldwide for his transformative interpretations of artistic masterpieces and collaborations with exceptional creative artists over three decades. Sellars has directed many international festivals and is currently a professor of World Arts and Cultures at UCLA. Winner of a MacArthur "genius" grant, Sellars will direct Nixon in China premiering at the Metropolitan Opera in 2011.
