Portugal's national ballet Companhia Nacional de Bailado (CNB) is making a special appearance with one of the principal classics of dance history: Swan Lake. This version from 2013 has been created by choreographer Fernando Duarte, who is also solo dancer and ballet master at CNB.
The music and story adheres to Tchaikovsky's masterpiece. In particular, it is the second, "white" act from the original version with its abstract presentation of the swan woman and the method of using the entire corps de ballet which set the trend. Duartes new choreography follows this classical tradition while the stage design has been created by film director Edgar Pêra and the costumes bear the signature of Portuguese fashion and costume designer, José António Tenente.
This guest performance is part of an artistic exchange in which GöteborgsOperans Danskompani will make a guest performance at the CNB home stage in Lisbon with the dance programme Spirit by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Saburo Teshigawara.
