Peasant girl Giselle falls in Albrecht. But Albrecht is not the pawn he masqueraded as, without count and already married to a noble. Giselle dies of a broken heart. She becomes a vilie – a strange fate for the young girls who have been deceived before the wedding. The night brought together vilierna with his Queen at forest Lake, where they danced and attract young men. They are drawn into the dance, dance until they die ...

The story of Giselle and her hapless love is inspired by a poem by Heinrich Heine, and the Ballet was premiered in 1841 in Paris. The Russian ballerina Natalia Makarova has made koreografin to Kungliga operan.
