Alfvén never wrote an opera, which is strange considering all the dramatic, melodic and text-based music he created in different contexts. On the basis of his music we have created this opera, which is about the composer, especially his relationship with women: the mother, a youth love, Marie Krøyer, a chorus girl. In the center is the relationship with Marie Krøyer, Hugo visiting at Skagen and that he "steals" from her husband, pathologic Skagen painter Søren Krøyer. Here are depicted the first love's tumultuous happiness, Marie's unhappiness in Sweden, Hugo's weakness for fame and glory, his slip with other women, marriage breakdown ...

We hear Alfvén's 4th symphony "From the open sea" in its entirety with all its emotive soprano and tenor solos. The symphony also adds more of the composer's most famous choirs and songs recorded ("The woods are sleeping", "Daybreak at the Sea", "So hold my heart in your hands" and others) to create this dramatic full-evening work. For the music arrangements answer our former director Soren Nielzén. The cultural heritage in new, dramatic music and theatrical form.

Cast and Creative team for Alfvén at Ystad Theatre

sung by Glenn Kjellberg and Paulina Pfeiffer, who made ??the lead roles in Cavalleria rusticana (2012) and a less solemn Mass (2013). New conductor for this year will be Andreas Lönnqvist, known from Malmö Opera and Opera on the insert. There will be large orchestra and additionally Ystad Opera Chorus, which formerly led by Susanne Larsson. For the libretto and directed responding Richard Bark. Set Design: Skagen painters / Thomas Jönsson. Producers are Antje Bark.
