 The North Carolina Black Repertory Company (NC Black Rep) in conjunction with Wake Forest University’s School of Divinity and Wake the Arts Initiative, along with generous support from the Henry Luce Foundation, have announced dates for the world premieres of two plays whose playwrights each won a $10,000 commission from the Finding Holy Ground: Performing Visions of Race and Justice in America project.

For the first time since 2018, Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe will offer a summer show. The comedy, “Coconut Cake,” was written by Melda Beaty and recognized with the Sylvia Sprinkle-Hamlin Rolling World Premiere Award at the National (now International) Black Theatre Festival in 2022.

The Downtown Urban Arts Festival returns for its 22nd season from June 12-29 at Theatre Row.

Center Theatre Group, in collaboration with The Fire This Time Festival and Watts Village Theater Company, will present a second season of Not A Moment, But A Movement, an initiative created to amplify, center, and celebrate Black voices.

The board of directors will conduct a national search to fill the position next fall, and Martin plans to remain involved in an emeritus capacity to ensure a smooth transition.
