Our goal in the Speech and Theatre Program at Southern University is to provide a environment for students to study and learn the fundamental practices of both speech and theatre, and to train and graduate professionals whose skill sets will apply in many fields. Those concentrating in theatre performance have the opportunity to put classroom theory into practice on stage, learn to effectively market themselves professionally, and to grow into successful artistic entrepreneurs. We do this by working diligently to provide focused attention to each and every student, providing a challenging environment and performance-oriented approach to all aspects of instruction. In the end, we seek to effectively prepare our students to meet the future by encouraging them to pursue post-baccalaureate studies, or other advanced training in their chosen fields.
