A music degree from Elmhurst opens the door to a wealth of careers.
Students have myriad opportunities to perform on and off campus. Solo recitals, small ensemble performances and large ensemble concerts are presented to all students on the campus. In addition, local clubs, churches and banquet halls make requests of Elmhurst College musicians, as do numerous venues in Chicago. There are also performing opportunities at professional conferences and programs in the United States and abroad.
Do you want to work for a record company, a radio station, or a major music festival? You can—while you're still an undergraduate! Our students have completed internships with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, radio powerhouse B96, Ravinia Festival, and Universal Records, among others.
As a student here, you'll be able to produce and market your own CDs—or even earn some money by producing the work of outside groups. One group of students recently formed its own record-producing company—one of only four such student-run companies in the nation.
If you major in music education, you'll work with professionals in the field in at least two schools and at two different levels before you graduate. All music education majors are encouraged to gain experience through teaching private lessons, coaching ensembles and conducting sectionals and large ensembles. You'll even have the opportunity to teach in Jamaica.
