THE GOLDEN TICKET a new opera based on Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will premiere at Opera Theatre of St. Louis with a run scheduled for June 13 to 26, 2010.
Music by Peter Ash, Libretto by Donald Sturrock.
The Golden Ticket is a deliciously layered fable with fantasy and comedy about the power of generosity and fearless imagination. The music is beautiful, with sophisticated vocal writing and wonderful scenes you'll remember from the book: chocolate rivers, inflating blueberries, and magic elevators. The Golden Ticket is admission to a magical land of fantastic experiences. Tracy Dahl returns to OTSL as Violet Beauregard and Daniel Okulitch debuts as Willy Wonka.
The production will be staged by Opera Theatre's Artistic Director James Robinson and conducted by newcomer Timothy Redmond, with sets by Bruno Schwengl, costumes by Martin Pakledinaz, and choreography by Seán Curran.
The Golden Ticket is a co-production with the American Lyric Theater and the Wexford Festival Opera.
