Spoleto Festival USA today announced a number of season updates, including a special savings opportunity for locals this Sunday, May 11; a first-time partnership with the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry for Kids' Night Out: Spoleto Edition on Friday, May 30; and details regarding the third annual Beer Garden at Middleton Place for the Wells Fargo Festival Finale on Sunday, June 8.

Sunday Sale and Second Sunday on King Street, May 11

This Sunday, May 11, Spoleto Festival USA will once again join other downtown businesses for Second Sunday on King Street from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. The Festival will have an information tent at the corner of King and George streets with staff on hand to answer questions, distribute brochures, and make program recommendations. Special ticket savings will be available at the Charleston Visitor Center box office located at 375 Meeting Street from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Customers will be able to save between 15-50% on popular performances such as selected Bank of America Chamber Music series concerts, Gate Theatre's My Cousin Rachel, and the Wells Fargo Festival Finale featuring Charleston's own Shovels & Rope. A full list of discounted performances can be found at spoletousa.org. Customers who spend $150 or more on tickets will receive a special Festival gift. (All tickets are subject to availability.)

Kids' Night Out: Spoleto Edition

Spoleto Festival USA and the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry (CML) have joined forces to provide an evening of entertainment for parents and children alike. On Friday, May 30, CML will host Kids' Night Out: Spoleto Edition from 5:00pm to 10:00pm at their facility located at 25 Ann Street. Parents can drop their kids off and walk to one of two Festival performances (A Brimful of Asha or Keigwin + Company). Tickets to these shows can be purchased online at spoletousa.org or by calling 843.579.3100.

Children ages 3-10 are welcome to attend Kids' Night Out: Spoleto Edition. The special Festival price is $15/hour for the first child and $5/hour for each sibling, and the evening includes dinner or a snack and lots of fun activities. Festival Finale Beer Garden Schedule

Located on the Greensward at Middleton Place, the Festival Finale Beer Garden will return with music and refreshments for a third year. Palmetto Brewery, the first brewery to operate in SC since prohibition, will be on site selling their signature handcrafted small-batch beers alongside food from the Middleton Place restaurant. During the afternoon, regional musicians will provide entertainment. A performance schedule for the Beer Garden Stage lineup is listed below:

4:15-5:00pm | Roger Bellow and The Drifting Troubadour
5:15-6:00pm | Megan Jean and the KFB
6:15-7:00pm | Rayland Baxter

Shovels & Rope will headline the Wells Fargo Festival Finale at 8:30pm on the main stage. This Charleston-based Americana duo will play until the traditional fireworks signal the end of the Festival. The Finale is a rain-or-shine family-friendly event. Gates open at 3:30pm. Tickets may be purchased online at spoletousa.org, over the phone at 843.579.3100, in person at the Charleston Visitor Center (375 Meeting Street), or through your mobile device. Tickets for children under 12 are $15 (children 5 and under are admitted free) and adult tickets are $30. Middleton Place is located at 4300 Ashley River Road.

2014 Program Updates/Reminders

  • Lucinda Williams will perform at the TD Arena on Wednesday, June 4, at 8:00pm.
  • In addition to SOUNDspace, Dorrance Dance will premiere a brand-new tap piece at the Festival titled Delta to Dusk. This new piece, choreographed by Dorrance Dance founder/director Michelle Dorrance, will replace the previously scheduled The Blues Project on June 1, 2, 3, 5, and 6.
  • Due to unforeseen circumstances, Laurie Anderson is no longer performing in the 2014 season of Spoleto Festival USA.
  • Martha Teichner's "Conversation With Ong Keng Sen and John Kennedy" on Sunday, May 25, at 3:30pm will now also include Michael Nyman, composer of Facing Goya. This and all other "Conversations With" events are free and open to the public. Tickets can be reserved online at spoletousa.org.
  • Actor Stephen Brennan will be featured as the speaker in Richard Strauss's Enoch Arden performed on Monday, June 2, at 5:00pm as part of the Intermezzi series; Lydia Brown performs the piano role. Brennan can also be seen in the Gate Theatre's My Cousin Rachel at the Dock Street Theatre.
