AUDITIONS for THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB, DIRECTOR: POLLY ADKINS

Saturday, September 12th 1:30 - 4:00 p.m.*, Sunday, September 13th 7 - 9 p.m.*, Fort Mill Community Playhouse 615 Banks Street Fort Mill, SC 29715

Production dates: November 12, 13, 14, 15, 19, 20, 21, 2009

A comedy by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten, with special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service, Inc., The Dixie Swim Club is the story of five women, friends since they were on their college swim team, who meet annually at the Outer Banks. The play covers 33 years and 4 of those weekends.

CAST NEEDED: 5 WOMEN These ladies begin the show in their early 40's (approx. 44). They age progressively to 49, 54, and finally 74. In the first scene, the audience must believe that they are of childbearing ages. Aging will be accomplished with wigs, some make-up and body posture.

CHARACTERIZATIONS:

Sheree Hollinger The team captain, a practical and supportive woman of boundless energy. Never without her to-do lists or Pocket scheduler, she has a tendency to be hyper-organized which occasionally drives her friends crazy. She is the eternal tomboy, a health-nut and an all-American mom who lives in Raleigh, NC, with her family. Body Type: Toned and slim, the result of healthy eating and good exercise habits.

Dinah Grayson The wise-cracking cynic of the group, she has fought her way to the top of the most prestigious law firm in Atlanta, and she relishes the view from the top. She excels at everything...except romance. Armed with a dry martini and an even drier sense of humor, Dinah seldom reveals her softer side as she tackles life head-on. Type: Any, but should look classy in a business suit and heels.

Lexie Richards A true Southern belle who lives in Chapel Hill, NC. She is a vain, youth-obsessed event planner for a chain of four-star hotels. She keeps her cosmetic surgeon on speed dial for her occasional nips and tucks and always revels in her status as a man-magnet. Lexie can be counted on to share wild and hilarious tales of her romantic exploits, and, surprisingly, to support her pals when the chips are down. Body Type: More youthful facially than the rest, because of her surgeries; amble bosom and good legs; may have a sexy swivel when she walks.

Jeri Neal McFeeley The ditzy ray of sunshine of the group. She's perky and naïve and always sees the positive side of everything. Having been a nun for many years, Jeri Neal has been protected from life's seamier side. Though she appears predictable, she continually makes life choices that surprise and amaze her friends (and the audience). She recently relocated to Charlottesville, VA. Body Type: Any.

Vernadette Simms A hard luck cases if they're ever was one. Marriage and motherhood came shortly after college, and a dark cloud has hovered above her ever since. A public school teacher, with limited finances and an unhappy home life in Spivey's Corner, NC, Vernadette is self-deprecating by necessity. She faces her tribulations with gallows humor and the unwavering support of these lifelong friends. Body Type: Any.
