PURE Theater Changes The Date For YANKEE TAVERN

PURE Theatre is proud to present the South Carolina premiere of the psychological thriller Yankee Tavern by Steven Dietz. The play is directed by PURE Artistic Director Sharon Graci, and will feature Will Hodges, Randy Neale, Katie Huard, and Mark Poremba. Opening Friday, January 22, 2010 at Upper Lance Hall on the grounds of Circular Congregational Church, the production will run through Saturday, February 13th.

Inside the walls of a crumbling New York tavern, a young couple find themselves caught up in what might be the biggest conspiracy of all. Steven Dietz's acclaimed dramatic thriller is a fierce, funny and ultimately mind-bending work of theatrical power that grips you until the final word. From the playwright of More Fun Than Bowling, Ten November, The Last of the Boys, Honus and Me, and Sherlock Holmes, comes a new play filled with mystery, conspiracy and thrills. In an instant, outlandish hypothesis become dangerous realities as surprising revelations continue to emerge in this eye-opening look at our government and the theories behind the events that have shaped our country.

Yankee Tavern made its debut at the Curious Theatre in Denver, CO, and has gone on to have performances in Washington, DC, Seattle, Charlotte, and Manalapan, FL for Florida Stage.

performance on Sunday, January 31st at 2:00. BYOBaby is a unique opportunity for parents of young children to enjoy professional theatre without incurring the cost of child care. Child care is provided free of charge by PURE Theatre, and staffed by childcare professionals from The Circular Congregational Church in their downstairs facility.

Sharon Graci (Director) is the artistic director and co-founder of PURE Theatre. Directing credits include Up, Speech & Debate, Sheep's Clothing, The Last Five Years, The Seafarer, Underneath the Lintel, and Eurydice. She is an alumnus of the 2007 Lincoln Center Director's Lab. Recent acting credits include Stage: Mara Stockman Kelly in Hogs, Elizabeth in Faith, Hope & Charity, Becca in Rabbit Hole, Celestina in Cloud Tectonics at PURE. Television: Army Wives (Lifetime), One Tree Hill (WB), Surface (NBC). She studied acting at Point Park University and the Pittsburgh Conservatory of Theatre and received a BA in theatre from Augusta State University. She has performed with numerous regional theatre companies throughout the Southeast and was voted Best Local Actress by Charleston City Paper readers in 2007 and 2008. She also received a Best Actor award for her work in Montague, winner Best Film, Stopwatch Cinema.
Steven Dietz (Playwright) is a Denver, CO native. His plays and adaptations-which include LONELY PLANET, PRIVATE EYES, INVENTING VAN GOGH, DRACULA, FORCE OF NATURE, HALCYON DAYS, and THE NINA VARIATIONS-have been seen at over one hundred regional theatres in the United States, as well as Off-Broadway. International productions of his work have been seen in England, Japan, Germany, France, Australia, Sweden, Russia, Slovenia, Argentina, Peru, Singapore and South Africa. Recent work includes FICTION (produced Off-Broadway by the Roundabout Theatre Company); LAST OF THE BOYS (produced by Steppenwolf Theatre, Chicago); and several widely-produced adaptations: HONUS AND ME (from Dan Gutman), and SHERLOCK HOLMES: THE FINAL ADVENTURE (from William Gillette and Arthur Conan Doyle).

Will Hodges (Adam) a Charleston native, has appeared in several local productions including Boys Next Door, The Mousetrap, Tribute, A Christmas Carol, Life With Father, Much Ado About Nothing, Love Labour's Lost, and PURE Theatre's HOGS. He studied acting with Marcia Haufrecht at Common Basis Theatre in New York City and performed improvisational comedy at the New York Comedy Club and The Zipper Theatre. He was also on the television show Dawson's Creek. This is his second show with PURE Theatre and will be in PURE's upcoming production of Lowcountry Boil.
