South Bend Civic Theatre to Present CAT ON A HOT TIN ROOF, 5/8-24
One of the masterworks by legendary playwright Tennessee Williams steams up South Bend Civic Theatre in May. In the play, Big Daddy Pollitt, the richest cotton planter in the Mississippi Delta, is about to celebrate his 65th birthday. He is distressed by the rocky relationship between his beloved son Brick, an aging football hero who has turned to drink, and his beautiful and feisty wife Maggie. As the hot summer evening unfolds, the veneer of Southern gentility slips away as unpleasant truths emerge and greed, lies and suppressed sexuality reach a boiling point. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1955 and is among Tennessee Williams' most popular plays.
Chuck Gessert directs Patty Bird as Maggie and Bill Svelmoe as Brick with Charlie Barron, Steven Mathew Cole, Lucinda Gary Moriarty, Tony Hutti, Eula Milon, Alicia Nagy, David Nagy, Julia Nagy, Louisa Nagy, Dick Pfeil, and Max Sala as Big Daddy.
Tennessee Williams' Cat on a Hot Tin Roof performs May 8-24 in the Wilson Theatre at South Bend Civic Theatre, 403 N. Main St. Reserved tickets are $25 with performances at 7:30 PM Wednesday through Saturday and 2:00 PM Sundays. For tickets, call the SBCT Box Office at 574-234-1112 or at sbct.org.
