Magic Thread Cabaret Kicks Off Its Sophomore Season With Cory Lingner Image

Klein and Alvarez Productions, LLC is proud to kick off its 2019 Magic Thread Cabaret sophomore season with Cory Lingner, who is already building quite an impressive resume on Broadway, back home to delight Central Indiana audiences with more than just his signature dance abilities.

"Cory Lingner: Just a 'Dancer'" is a fun, dynamic look at his Broadway career, Indiana roots, and dreams for the future. The cabaret will feature songs from classic musical theatre to pop, arranged by his music director and accompanist Richard Rockage, enjoyed in the intimate space of The Cat Theatre, near the bustling Carmel Arts & Design District.

Lingner grew up in Indianapolis, where he started dancing at age four and later on stage as a student performer at University High School in Carmel. He went on to earn a degree in musical theatre performance from the prestigious Weitzenhoffer School of Musical Theatre at University of Oklahoma. Now living and working in New York, his Broadway credits include "Carousel," "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "An American in Paris," and "On the Town." On TV, Cory has appeared on Saturday Night Live, Tony Awards, Today Show, Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Hulu's "The Battery's Down."

Lingner sang a song with fellow New York artist and Hoosier native Melissa Schott when she presented her own Magic Thread Cabaret this past November. Now that he's the headliner, Lingner is happily returning the favor by inviting her to the stage for a duet. Schott is actor/singer/dancer/choreographer, who has performed in Cirque du Soleil, "42nd Street," "Thoroughly Modern Millie," and on TV in "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel."

Lingner has also asked Keegan Connor to be his guest on stage. The 12-year-old is a two-time winner of CarmelFest Has Talent and a regular performer in CYT Indy musicals. The Westfield Middle School student is a recording artist, who has also appeared in national ads for Starbucks and Nestle.

"Cory Lingner: Just a 'Dancer'" will run March 29 & 30 at 7:30 p.m. and March 31 at 4:00 p.m. at The Cat Theatre, 254 Veterans Way, Carmel, Indiana 46032. Tickets are $35 and $25 and reflect seating options and are available online at magicthreadcabaret.com, by calling 800-838-3006 or at the door. Beer, wine and snacks are sold at concessions.

Dustin Klein and Tom Alvarez of Klein & Alvarez Productions, LLC most recently produced "Broadway's Leading Ladies: A Tribute" for the IndyFringe Festival in August, 2018. The producing partners were also behind the best-selling show of IndyFringe Festival 2016, the workshop presentation of "Calder, The Musical," which they turned into a full-length production that made its debut in January 2017 to packed houses in Indianapolis. The musical won two Mitty Awards for "Most Impressive Original Production" and "Most Impressive Set Design. Currently, Klein and Alvarez are working to present the show in other markets.

In November 2017, Klein and Alvarez debuted Magic Thread Cabaret, a nonprofit venture with the goal of "Connecting Songs to the Soul." The series is fiscally sponsored by Fractured Atlas, the New York-based nonprofit technology company that provides business tools for artists.
