Civic Theatre And The Great American Songbook Foundation Partner For Cole Porter Classic ANYTHING GOES

By:

Booth Tarkington Civic Theatre and the Great American Songbook Foundation have partnered to celebrate the artistry of an iconic musician. Indiana native Cole Porter's ANYTHING GOES opens Civic's 104th year of continuous operation, and 8th year at the Tarkington, on Friday, October 12, 2018.

Civic Executive Artistic Director Michael Lasley said, "Civic is extraordinarily lucky to have the Great American Songbook Foundation as its partner. The important work they do in preserving and promoting this uniquely American genre makes it easier for us to produce such great works as ANYTHING GOES."

Through the generosity of the Great American Songbook Foundation, audience members can see authentic materials from the Songbook Foundation Archives that celebrate Porter, a 2012 Songbook Hall of Fame inductee, on display in the lobby.

Chris Lewis, Executive Director of the Great American Songbook Foundation, noted, "The continued relevance of our nation's great popular music depends on the active re-interpretation of groundbreaking works that defined the Golden Age of the Great American Songbook. We are proud to partner with Civic Theatre as they bring this classic musical to life and write the next chapter for the Songbook's artistic impact here in Central Indiana."

A Cultural Affiliate of the Los Angeles-based Grammy Museum, the Great American Songbook Foundation inspires and educates by curating physical artifacts of the Songbook's creators, performers and publishers; operating a multimedia exhibit gallery; overseeing the Songbook Hall of Fame; offering programs for the public and research opportunities for scholars and artists; and providing educational opportunities for student musicians, including the annual Songbook Academy summer intensive.

Music, dance, laughs, and the age-old tale of Boy Meets Girl- no musical puts it on stage better than ANYTHING GOES! A hilarious shipboard romp, wrapped around one of Cole Porter's most magical scores, ANYTHING GOES is Delightful, Delicious, and De-Lovely.
