Stuart Taylor, now known to many as 'The King of Relationship Comedy' has hit the road again, this time with a unique offering in the form of THE LEARNER HUSBAND BOOK LAUNCH TOUR. The show comes to the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town for a limited season from todya, 2 to 6 July 2013, directly after its run at the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.
After years of performing Learner Husband, his most successful show to date, and after shouldering countless requests to write a book on the subject matter along the way, comedIan Stuart Taylor has finally put together the book: LEARNER HUSBAND: A HANDY GUIDE FOR AVOIDING COLLISIONS WITH YOUR WIFE. It's the unofficial guide to marriage that every couple should read as it not only promises to be thoroughly entertaining but potentially life altering as well. THE LEARNER HUSBAND BOOK LAUNCH TOUR has already toured Durban, and now is now headed for Port Elizabeth, East London, Grahamstown, Cape Town and Johannesburg. It's a brand new show that gives audiences a live representation of what to expect in the book. This show is interactive and the audience plays a key role in what is set to be a multimedia comedy extravaganza.
As Taylor explains, "It's like stand-up comedy on steroids; from pop quizzes to onstage training in the art of 'Fake Listening', this production is an epic fun rollercoaster ride. This comedic analysis of relationships appeals to a broad audience; from elderly couples to recently engaged 'newbies'; from single students to a group of housewives - there is something in the book and the show for everyone. It takes a look at marriage in the 21st century and ensures that everyone can take some lessons home with them, as told by your 'funny' guy next door, based on his own experiences, and those of a few others."
With over a decade of performing comedy at the highest level, Stuart Taylor is a true South African comedy heavyweight. His impressive body of work includes many ensemble show appearances, sold out one-man shows and numerous television credits, that have earned him the adoration of local critics and fans over the years. Awards he has won include Best Overall Comedy at the National Arts Festival and the Showtime Award for Best Solo Performance. The same success and rave reviews have followed his international exploits and performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Scotland; the Berlin International Comedy Festival in Germany, as well as at the Auckland International Comedy Festival in New Zealand.
Taylor's ability to interrogate the human condition, explore people, their sensibilities, hopes, dreams, ambitions and fears, illuminating how they interact with each other, exposing similarities and differences alike, has made him stand apart in a comedy industry that tends to have many similar comedians. His performances are more than just a comedy show: they bring with them a deeper social commentary about the world around us. In putting together this show, Stuart Taylor once again joins forces with long-time partner in crime and award-winning director Heinrich Reisenhofer. Without a doubt one of the country's most respected and decorated theatre directors, Reisenhofer brings an enormous amount of value and gravitas to the show. His accolades, too numerous to mention, also include several Fleur du Cap awards. Having also worked together on LEARNER HUSBAND, MONEY'S TOO TIGHT TO MENTION and MEN'S ISSUE, this dynamic duo has produced another sumptuous dish of comedy.
So ladies, bring your men to get some training on how to avoid those collisions with you. Stuart will explain to them what you mean when you say words like 'nothing', 'fine', '5 minutes' and 'never mind'. Guys, treat your lady to an evening of comedy and she may just finally understand why you 'have to leave the toilet seat up' or 'hang out with your boys'.
Stuart Taylor's THE LEARNER HUSBAND BOOK LAUNCH TOUR is at the Baxter Theatre from 2 to 6 July at 8pm with tickets at R100 via Computicket or 08619158000.
