Following a rave-reviewed debut at the 2014 National Arts Festival, the original South Africa's musical YOU BET YOUR LIFE! opened to a fabulous reception at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre last week. Scroll down for a first look at cast members David Fick, Amy Trout and Roland Perold in what Beverley Brommert of the Cape Argus has called "a devilishly humorous night out"!

Presented by ROLKSA Productions, the Standard Bank Ovation-award winning team behind crowd-pleasing hits such as I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE and EDGES, YOU BET YOUR LIFE! is a rib-tickling ride on a TV game show - with a twist - featuring catchy original show tunes that are guaranteed to get feet tapping. The book, music and lyrics for YOU BET YOUR LIFE! have been written by Roland Perold and David Fick, with What's On In Cape Town critic, Lauren Vogt, praising the "upbeat and lively original songs". The show is staged by acclaimed director, Drew Rienstra, with choreography is by William Jones.

In YOU BET YOUR LIFE, typical boy-next-door Jonny Evans (played by a "perfectly cast" David Fick, who "captures Jonny''s apprehension and vulnerability" - Cape Argus) finds himself trapped in a rather unconventional gameshow where scenes from his life are replayed with purgatorial relish. Hosted by the ostentatious Timothy Radcliffe (Roland Perold - "utterly plausible as the bright and brittle TV show host" - Cape Argus), the audience is introduced to Jonny's neurotic mother, his crazy ex-girlfriends, and the show's no-nonsense producer Patricia van Damme ("full marks to Amy Trout, who apart from singing up a storm portrays every female character with equal conviction" - Cape Argus) as well as a host of other characters who all seem bent on keeping Jonny in limbo as Timothy tries to manipulate things to secure his own redemption.

YOU BET YOUR LIFE! will be performed at the Alexander Bar and Café's Upstairs Theatre until 21 March, excluding Sundays, at 7pm. Tickets cost R80 online and R90 at the door. Bookings can be made at the Alexander Bar website or at the bar itself during its regular opening hours.
