Philip Moolman

Popular actor and singer Philip Moolman will play one night only at the Drostdy Theatre in Sellenbosch this July. He will perform a programme of Neil Diamond hits as well as his own Afrikaans material, including songs like "Hoog bo die wolke" and "Vissies".

Most people remember Moolman as André Vorster in EGOLI or Neil MacDonald in SONKRING, but his career kicked off when he won Ster '90, a national singing and songwriting competition in which he was named the best singer and songwriter. In 2002, he opened a dinner theatre venue named Die Blou Hond, where he and dozens of top performers perform weekly. Following many the successful performances at Die Blou Hond, Moolman decided it was time to introduce his talents to a wider audience. Leading roles in four musicals, namely ESTHER, LIEFLING, DROOMKIND and ONS VIR YOU, followed, as well as a role in the film, SNAAKS GENOEG.

Moolman comments on why this performance will be a particularly special one for him:

For the first time in decades, I have the privilege of doing a concert in my own hometown environment: in Parow, where I grew up, and in Stellenbosch, where I studied. I was a first-year in the Drama Department at Stellenbosch in 1985, with Casper de Vries, Ilse Roos, Marion Holm and other celebrities. I stayed in the Helshoogte residence.

Nataniël and Koos Kombuis were also based in Stellenbosch at the time. Moolman continues:

It's going to be a wonderful, emotional and sentimental journey back. I'm looking forward to my performance at the Drostdy Theatre immensely. My new album is on the way, and various main roles in movies, soaps and TV shows beckon.

Philip Moolman will play the Drostdy Theatre on 14 July at 20:15. Tickets cost R120 and can be booked via the theatre's website. Keep up to date with all events at the Drostdy Theatre by following the venue's social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
