Jazzart Dance Theatre will showcase "Melting Truth" in the Baxter Dance Festival on 15 and 16 October at the Baxter Theatre. "Melting Truth" explores the journey that dancers undertake to find their own emotional truths, and how they express this through their physical bodies. As dancers explore the relationship between themselves and their physical environment their emotions melt out of their bodies connecting them to the audience and each other.

Choreographer, Mziyanda Mancam is particularly interested in the cyclical relationship between time and space and how, as a dancer, these in turn impact on dancers' ability to utilize their bodies and indeed realise, the dancers' personal emotional truth. Mancam is a skilled choreographer and a graduate of the Jazzart's three-year Training Programme, which he completed in 2009 before joining Jazzart as a teacher, production director and choreographer in 2010. In 2014, Mziyanda was awarded a dance residency to attend Plymouth State University in the United States of America. In the same year, he was nominated at the Western Cape Department of Sports and Culture Cultural Awards Ceremony in the Arts and Culture category, for his contribution to performing arts in dance.

The trainees in their second year of Jazzart Training Programme are: Katlego Moncho, Lee-Joel Bosman, Llewellyn Afrika, Lusanda Dayimani, Lusindiso Dibela, Nichelle Linnert, Nkosinathi Mngomezulu, Nkemiseng Khena, Tamsyn Spannenberg and Yaseen Manuel.

The Baxter Dance Festival opened at the Baxter Theatre last night and will showcase nearly 70 works from until 18 October 2014. The festival provides emerging and established dance companies and choreographers with an opportunity to present their work, whilst striving to nurture and promote dance talent. Tickets for the main programme cost R100 per ticket and are obtainable from Computicket.
