Having launched its festive season run yesterday, WHEN LION HAD WINGS will play the Masque Theatre Foyer from 12-15 December. Presented by the Jungle Theatre Company, WHEN LION HAD WINGS was developed with funds received from the National Lotteries Commission.
WHEN LION HAD WINGS is an ancient Khoikhoi folktale is told by three very different characters in English, Afrikaans and Nama. Animal masks and original songs are used to tell the story of a flying lion who is bullying all the animals and has made the vultures his slaves. A band of hilarious frogs leads the animals to discover their own talents and to stand up to the bully, while the storytellers continuously link the folktale to the language, culture and history of the Khoikhoi as well as to their personal experiences. Insights into the behaviour of humans and wild animals are also revealed.
The 40-minute show takes place at 10:00 on each day of the run and is suitable for the whole family. Tickets, costing R50, are available by phone on 021 788 1898 or by emailing the Masque Theatre. Refreshments will be available, and t-shirts and posters of the show will also be on sale. As the performances are funded by the National Lottery Commission, the full proceeds of the show will be used to take the show to needy children next year.
