Dave Starke

COHEN - A TRIBUTE is an exploration of the life and works of the late Leonard Cohen. The show features Cohen's music and poetry, interspersed with anecdotes from his life and other literary writings.

Audiences can expect early hits such as "Suzanne" and "So Long, Marianne", the haunting "Famous Blue Raincoat" and "Who By Fire" as well as lighter works such as "Tower of Song" and pieces from his final album, YOU WANT IT DARKER, which was released just before his death.

The text for COHEN - A TRIBUTE was researched and compiled by Perran Hahndiek and is performed by Dave Starke.

Hahndiek is a writer and poet based in the Western Cape. He studied political science at the University of Cape Town and is a procedural advisor to the National Assembly in the South African Parliament.

Starke is a singer and guitarist based KwaZulu-Natal. He has performed in many festivals and shows throughout South Africa and abroad over the last twenty years. In 2016, he appeared in the first season of THE VOICE - SOUTH AFRICA. In addition to performing, Starke also composes music for film and television as well as running a non-profit performing arts school for underprivileged youth in southern Zululand.

COHEN - A TRIBUTE runs from 8 - 13 January at 19:00 nightly. Tickets are available from the Alexander Bar website, with seats costing R90 if booked and prepaid online or R100 if paid on collection at the bar. For telephone enquiries, call 021 300 1652.
