The stage is set at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg for a new production of Charlotte Brontë's JANE EYRE. Adapted for the stage by Alastair Duff, the play follows the original story of the novel very closely and really brings Brontë's extraordinary tale to life.

JANE EYRE follows the experiences of its named heroine, including her growth to adulthood and her love for Mr Rochester, the master of Thornfield Hall.

Brontë's novel is well-known for revolutionising the art of fiction in the nineteenth century. It contains elements of social criticism, with a strong sense of Christian morality at its core. Nonetheless, it is a story which many consider ahead of its time given the individualistic character of Jane and the exploration of classism, sexuality, religion and feminism.

Duff, who has penned this exciting stage version himself, will direct the production. A man who is no stranger to Masque audiences, he has directed many plays over the years, including his successful adaptation of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE in 2010.

The cast of JANE EYRE is led by Jamie Uranovsky as the titular Jane Eyre. The role of the young Jane is shared by Kiera-Lee Hayes and Ella Larkin. Playing the brooding and aloof Mr Rochester is Robert Shanton. The rest of the large cast is full of names both new and familiar to Masque audiences, with the other children's roles in the play, Helen Burns and Adèle Varens, also being double cast.

JANE EYRE is presented by Constantiaberg Theatre Players, the same society that brought the hilarious DESIGN FOR LIVING to the stage earlier this year. The production opens at the Masque Theatre on 30 June and runs until 8 July on Wednesdays through Saturdays. Bookings are online through the Masque Theatre website, by email or by phone on 021 788 1898.
