The Arts & Culture Trust will be awarding 17 performing arts scholarships this year to Grade 12 learners and individuals under the age of 25, as well as first- and second-year students in acting, singing, dancing and musical theatre. The awards are presented in collaboration with are presented in collaboration with the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation and Nedbank Arts Affinity. Aspiring performing artists are reminded that the deadline for registration is Tuesday, 31 May 2016.

The scholarships for Grade 12 participants and individuals up to the age of 25 require participants to demonstrate competence in three disciplines - acting, singing and dancing - with exceptional talent in at least one of the disciplines. Winners are at liberty to select their preferred performing arts course at any accredited South African tertiary institution. Additionally, candidates who demonstrate exceptional potential in one of the disciplines stand a chance to win a discipline-specific scholarship.

Six finalists will be selected. They will be required to showcase their talents at the final round of the programme on 10 October 2016 hosted by The Market Theatre in Johannesburg. National auditions will be held during June and July in Durban, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Potchefstroom, Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Witbank, Polokwane, Pretoria and Johannesburg.

The scholarships for first- and second-year student participants are available to participants in their first or second year of undergraduate studies at an accredited South African tertiary institution during 2016. Scholarships will be awarded in the fields of Dramatic Arts, Singing, Dance and Musical Theatre. Participants need to be available for a final showcase during September 2016.

The winners will be announced at the final event on 10 October 2016, hosted by the Market Theatre in Newtown, Johannesburg.
