Alan Committie To Supply Comedy on a Global Scale in PLANET MIRTH at Theatre On The Bay
Alan Committie

With the festive season drawing near, Cape Town funnyman Alan Committie is ready to bring audiences in the Mother City another hilarious look at the world around us. In PLANET MIRTH, Committie presents a docu-comedy in the highest definition and promises all the infectious energy, physical hi-jinks, witty wordplay and hysterical observations audiences have come to love about his brand of comic madness. Fleur Du Cap Theatre Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient Christopher Weare directs the show. This production is the pair's nineteenth in partnership with each other.

PLANET MIRTH is a comic look at - well - everything. Our planet has never been in a more precarious state, and that makes it ripe for Committie to unpack how we got here, where we are and how the heck we are ever going to move forward. Using stand up, characters and sketches, Committie will attempt to hysterically unpack history, geography, science, and even sport - but mostly the production promises to make audiences look at the world around them and laugh until they cry. Car hire, hiking, sign language, family gatherings, gallons of garnish and astrology are just some of the topics around which PLANET MIRTH might revolve. Part-time security guard, Johan van der Walt, and de-motivational speaker, Trevor Tahor, will also make appearances.

Tickets for PLANET MIRTH, which runs from 6 December to 13 January, range in price from R120 - R180 and are available online through Computicket, by phone on 021 438 3301, or in person at any Shoprite Checkers outlet nationwide.

Alan Committie has been nominated as Best Director of a Play for his work on THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at the BroadwayWorld South Africa Awards. Vote for your theatre picks of the year, submitted by BroadwayWorld readers, before the voting period closes on 31 December.
