ASSITEJ to Host Family Festival in November
ASSITEJ South Africa is based in the very poor township community of Vrygrond close to Muizenberg, Cape Town. The organisation is holding a Family Festival of performances for children and their families in the community this November. ASSITEJ South Africa is holding on a number of community-based engagements prior to the festival, which are driven by our Vrygrond-based volunteers, and aim to get as much community support and buy-in for the festival as possible.
The Family Festival will be an intense celebration of theatre and arts activities aimed specifically at children, young people and their families from Vrygrond and the surrounding areas, such as Lavender Hill and Overcome. Within the context of a vibrant community space, audiences will get to see a range of high quality theatre and dance for different ages, as well as having the chance to engage in arts-based workshops and to enter into dialogue with artists.
Determined to keep ticket prices as low as possible, while also ensuring that people still pay something so that theatre does not get seen as "another handout", ASSITEJ South Africa is offering theatre tickets at R40 for adults and R20 for children, but are also offering family day-tickets which will provide each family with 4 tickets for a day's experience of the festival, including a theatre show, a workshop, storytelling, a conversation with artists, and a meal! The actual value of these tickets is R470, but ASSITEJ South Africa are charging audiences only R100 for day-tickets. This means that for every family attending the festival for a day, we need to raise R370 in support.
Members of the public can contribute to this initiative through ASSITEJ South Africa's givengain campaign, by making a small donation to support children, young people and their families having a meaningful and memorable arts' experience. The quick and easy-to-use fundraising link is:
