The Wells Fargo CineDome at the Washington Pavilion offers a closer look into the past and present of China through the newest mission film, "Mysteries of China."

In the last half-century China has emerged as a major world power: the fastest-growing economy on Earth, symbolized by architectural wonders and technological advances. But beneath the skyscrapers and high-speed rail lines of the new China lies a rich past that informs the China of today. "Mysteries of China," a new large screen film from Giant Screen Films, Top Production China and Expanded Eye Entertainment, digs deep into the past to uncover the secrets of this great nation's origins.

To celebrate the opening of "Mysteries of China," the Washington Pavilion will offer themed daily museum events and activities. During the week of Jan 29 - Feb 4, patrons can learn and celebrate great inventions and creations of China.

Activities will include "Brush of the Gods" storytime and art activities, Great Chinese Inventions in the STEAM Maker Lab, Dragon Art in the art creation station, and a Bed of Nails science workshop.

From modern China to ancient China and back again, "Mysteries of China" is a visual adventure, using beautiful aerial photography and cutting-edge time-lapse techniques to reveal great majesty, tragedy, splendor and growth in a nation that continues to excel quickly into the future.

"This film, like the country, is a visual sensation,' said director Keith Melton. "We were granted unprecedented access during the filming and were the first giant screen production to utilize Sony's new 8K image processing workflow. The result is stunning footage of unparalleled quality - precisely what the giant screen medium prescribes. From a 2,000 year old archaeological dig twice the size of a soccer field to the vast countryside and craggy peaks of rural China to the ultramodern Pudong district of Shanghai at night, this film takes you everywhere."

The "Mysteries of China" is playing in the Wells Fargo CineDome Jan 26 - July 26, 2018. Visit washingtonpavilion.org for show times.

Narrated by Avery Brooks, "Mysteries of China" is produced by Giant Screen Films, Top Production China and Expanded Eye Entertainment, and distributed globally by Giant Screen Films and D3D Cinema.
