Last Saturday Opera Theatre of St. Louis premiered a new adaptation of Scott Joplin’s legendary opera Treemonisha.  It is a bright and worthy addition to our recent flurry of adoration of some of America’s major black composers;  the Black Rep closed their stunningly fine evening of Eubie Blake’s music three days earlier.

Sondheim's macabre musical Sweeney Todd, arrives in Brazil. The show opened on March in Sao Paulo for a short season and takes place on the 033 Rooftop of Teatro Santander. With direction by Ze Henrique de Paula, the Brazilian production stars Rodrigo Lombardi (Sweeney), Andrezza Massei (Mrs. Lovett), and Mateus Ribeiro (Tobias Ragg).

Live theatre is officially back and Concord Theatricals is celebrating! 'There's No Business Like Show Business' is a digital celebration that launched just last month, marking the return of live theater and all of the incredible people who help to make it happen. The celebration coincides with the 75th anniversary of Irving Berlin's Annie Get Your Gun and its iconic showstopper 'There's No Business Like Show Business,' a song that has more resonance than ever this year.

The Public Theater will begin previews for the New York premiere of FIRE IN DREAMLAND, written by Rinne Groff on Tuesday, June 19. The company is currently hard at work in rehearsals, check out the photos below!

In honor of the centenary of Harold Chapin's heroic death on the battlefield in 1915, Mint Theater is proud to present THE NEW MORALITY, opening Monday, September 21st, and in previews now. It was all in the family and all for the family at The Friars Club last night. La Famiglia, Mishpucha, La Familia, CeMbR, Rat Pack, Broadway and Cabaret, were assembled by producers Laura Slutsky and Jamie at the Friars for a spectacular Jamie deRoy & friends show last night. You had to be in the family or know someone in the family to get into the sold out event. Probably no family gathering had so much fun, good food, and great performances as this one did.

Long Wharf Theatre, in association with Hartford Stage, presents The Underpants by Steve Martin, adapted from the play by Carl Sternheim, directed by Artistic Director Gordon Edelstein. The play will take place now through November 10, 2013 at The Claire Tow Stage in the C. Newton Schenck III Theatre before moving to Hartford Stage January 9 through February 9, 2014. Southwark Playhouse presents a major revival of the Jerry Herman/Michael Stewart Hollywood musical, Mack and Mabel, starring Norman Bowman as Mack and Laura Pitt-Pulford (who received rave reviews as Lucille Frank in Parade) as Mabel, directed by Thom Southerland and produced by Danielle Tarento. The show will run for an 8-week season at The Vault at Southwark Playhouse, now through Saturday, August 25. Press night is tomorrow, July 11 at 7.30pm. The Broadway community once again opened its arms to the students of John A. Coleman Catholic High School of Hurley, New York. The school, which has gained a reputation for some of the best young musical theater talent in the Hudson River Valley, produced The Secret Garden in honor of the 20th anniversary of the show's Broadway debut in April of 1991. The cast of Coleman Musical Theater's production recently traveled into New York City to meet members of the original Broadway cast.
