Direct from New York City after its closing last Fall, The Winter Park Playhouse opens the country's first professional production of the Off-Broadway hit - Desperate Measures - September 20 through October 13.

The York Theatre Company presents the world premiere of the new musical comedy Christmas in Hell with book, music, and lyrics by Gary Apple ('The Simpsons'), with direction and choreography by Bill Castellino (Desperate Measures, York/New World Stages) andmusic direction, music supervision, and arrangements by Logan Medland (National Tours of Cats and Crazy for You). The eight-member cast features Scott Ahearn (Under the Knife: A Farce, Theater for the New City) as Richard, Donna English (Nice Work If You Can Get It, Broadway)as Mrs. Huvey, Lori Hammel (Mamma Mia!, Broadway) as Galiana, Elijah Rayman (Oliver, Goodspeed Opera House) as Davin, Zak Risinger(The Cradle Will Rock, Howl! Arts) as Carl, Brandon Williams (Gettin' the Band Back Together, Broadway) as Lucifer, Dathan B. Williams (Show Boat, Broadway) as Detective Zanderhoff, and Ron Wisniski (Beauty and the Beast, Broadway) as Principal Bolton.

Abingdon Theatre Company held their special one-night-only gala event on Monday, October 22 at The Edison Ballroom. The evening, honoring two-time Tony Award winner Donna Murphy (Hello, Dolly!; Passion; Wonderful Town), was hosted by Randy Rainbow.

It's a celebration!  The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director) gathered to celebrate the release of three new original cast recordings of York productions from the 2017-2018 season:  Desperate Measures, Unexpected Joy, and Lonesome Blues. 

Christian Borle will make his New York directorial debut next month with the new Off-Broadway play Popcorn Falls! The show will play New York City's Davenport Theatre on 45th Street (354 W 45th between 8th and 9th avenues) and hold its official opening night on Columbus Day, Monday October 8, 2018. Broadway in Bryant Park is back! The 2018 program brings the best of Broadway together for free performances for six consecutive weeks through Thursday, August 16. New Yorkers and visitors to the Big Apple are invited to come at 11 a.m. every Thursday with performances running from 12:30 p.m. EST - 1:30 p.m. EST on the Bryant Park Stage. Hosted by 106.7 LITE FM's on-air personalities, this year's annual presentation continues this week.

The Off Broadway Alliance, an organization of Off-Broadway producers, theaters, general managers, press agents, and marketing professionals, just presented the 8th Annual Off-Broadway Alliance Awards, honoring commercial and not-for-profit productions that opened Off-Broadway during the 2017-2018 season. Winners included: Desperate Measures (Best New Musical), Transfers (Best New Play), The Government Inspector (Best Revival), KPOP (Best Unique Theatrical Experience), Billy Crudup, Harry Clarke (Best Solo Performance), Polka Dots: The Cool Kids Musical(Best Family Show). 

Winners for the 63rd Annual Drama Desk Awards were announced just last night at The Town Hall. In keeping with Drama Desk's mission, nominators considered shows that opened on Broadway, Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway during the 2017-2018 New York theater season in the same competitive categories.

Mazel Tov! The Jule Styne Celebration Continues! The York Theatre Company (James Morgan, Producing Artistic Director; Evans Haile, Executive Director), dedicated to the development of new musicals and the preservation of musical gems from the past, presents the rarely-seen musical Bar Mitzvah Boy, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Tony and Oscar winner Don Black (Sunset Boulevard), and book by Jack Rosenthal (Yentl), as adapted by David Thompson (The Scottsboro Boys), the second of three shows in the Winter 2018 Musicals in Mufti Series celebrating the work of composer Jule Styne. Performances began February 10, 2018 for 11 performances only through Sunday, February 18, 2018 at the York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue). Opening Night was Sunday evening, February 11, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. Check out photos from the night below!
