SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller is playing at North Shore Music Theatre through June 19.

Through the hit songs of writers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, Smokey Joe's Cafe tells the story of American rock and roll's Golden Age. The duo's iconic tracks -- including 'Hound Dog,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' 'Love Potion #9,' and 'Stand By Me,' among many others -- form the basis for the characters' journey in the show, as they grow from high schoolers in the 1950s to adulthood in the 1960s. Their journey is that of our nation, as it took a step toward equality with the passage of the Civil Rights and Voting Acts of 1964 and 1965. The 1960s were a tumultuous period in American history, as the United States fought an increasingly unpopular foreign war in Vietnam and groups that had been historically oppressed sought equal rights and opportunities. For each performance, seating in the McCoy will be capped at 25% capacity, per Governor DeWine's most recent order for arts venues. Masks are required for in-person attendance at the performances. Because audience members are not permitted to gather before or after performances, we will open doors to the theatre 20 minutes before the start of the performance. Patrons can choose to see the performances in person or to live stream them. Last night Broadway Sessions offered up it's annual All Star Holiday Show at The Laurie Beechman. Broadway Sessions alumni will reunited for an evening of holiday music, magic, laughs and love.

Last month at Joe's Pub, The Musical Theatre Factory presented a sold-out album release concert of Beau, Douglas Lyons and Ethan D. Pakchar's thrilling new musical. The evening was a celebration of the world premiere album, recently released on Sony Masterworks Broadway.

The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts opens its season with the Ordway Original Smokey Joe's Cafe: The Songs of Leiber and Stoller, which begins performances on Sept. 10 and runs through Sept. 22.

Composing team Douglas Lyons (Beautiful) and Ethan D. Pakchar's latest musical, Beau, opened on August 3rd at The Adirondack Theatre Festival; now running through August 9th. Directed by Michael Wilson (A Trip to Bountiful) the ATF company stars Matt Rodin and Jeb Brown (Beautiful), featuring Amelia Cormack (Kinky Boots Tour), Marlene Ginader (Once Tour), Olivia Griffin, Max Sangerman (Smokey Joe's Cafe), and Jeremy Sevelovitz (Chasing The Song).

This Monday, July 17th, Feinstein's/54 Below celebrated Broadway's best group numbers and ensemble moments!

Broadway's next generation comes to LA in A Little New Music's 20th concert of new musical theatre songs in The Sorting Room's 2019 Summer Series at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on June 26th at 7:00 pm. Kathy Deitch (B'way WICKED, FOOTLOOSE) will host. Multiple LA Ovation Award-winning composer Gregory Nabours (THE TROUBLE WITH WORDS, MARILYN! BroadwayWorld Chicago invited all winners, nominees, past winners and nominees, theater folk, superfans, board members and everyone else to the third annual BroadwayWorld Awards Celebration on January 9, 2013 at The Call nightclub in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood. BroadwayWorld's Paul W. Thompson and The Call's Ashley Morgan once again co-hosted the event, with showtune videos presented by VJ Michael Hogan in between categories.

Smokey Joe's Café, the musical theatre review that was nominated for seven Tony awards and ran on Broadway for more than 2,000 performances, will come to the Centenary Stage this month, when the acclaimed New Jersey Youth Theatre brings their high-energy production to the Sitnik Theater of the Lackland Center, July 26-29 in Hackettstown, NJ. President George HW Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush honored the Ogunquit Playhouse by attending yesterday's (June 3rd) Matinee performance of Always, Patsy Cline, now playing through June 16. Sally Struthers (as Louise) and Carter Calvert (as Patsy Cline) welcomed them backstage during intermission, where President and Mrs. Bush exalted both leading lady's performances. The former President and First Lady "loved" the show, and the cast, musicians and audience members loved seeing them as well. Check out the photo below!
