Just yesterday, Sting and the cast of his Broadway musical, The Last Ship, gathered at Sardi's (234 W. 44 St) to celebrate the unveiling of his own caricature. Sting made his Broadway debut this season as a composer with the musical THE LAST SHIP, and is appearing on stage with the cast now through the end of the musical's run on January 24 at the Neil Simon Theatre. A once-in-a-lifetime Broadway event took place yesterday, December 21, following the matinee performance of The Last Ship when patrons were invited to meet Sting and members of the cast on stage at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.) as they signed copies of the recently released Original Broadway Cast Recording. 16-time Grammy Award winning musician Sting, who now stars in The Last Ship (for which he also composed the score), was joined by cast mates Michael Esper, Rachel Tucker, Jimmy Nail,Fred Applegate, Aaron Lazar, Sally Ann Triplett and Collin Kelly-Sordelet. On the heels of the 16-time Grammy Award winner's sold-out, standing-room-only debut performance on Tuesday night, December 9, Sting's engagement in The Last Ship on Broadway has been extended through January 24, 2015, the musical's producers Jeffrey Seller and Kathryn Schenker announced. Originally scheduled to perform with the cast for five weeks, Sting will now appear for an additional two weeks in the role of Jackie White in The Last Ship at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St.). He will be replacing actor Jimmy Nail, who is said to have 'blessed' the move. Sting then joins Paul Simon on tour in New Zealand on January 30, 2015, making any further extensions unlikely. Sting will return to the Broadway stage as a performer when he steps into the role of Jackie White in the acclaimed new musical THE LAST SHIP, for which he made his Broadway debut as a composer earlier this season. Sting will assume the role beginning December 9 for four weeks through January 10, 2015 at the Neil Simon Theatre (250 W. 52 St). The announcement was made earlier this morning, live on NBC's "Today."

The 16-time Grammy Award winner Sting - who has said his love of Broadway musicals dates to his childhood in Newcastle when his mother played Broadway cast recordings (CAROUSEL, OKLAHOMA!, etc.) that, to quote Sting, "I ate for breakfast," - just joined the cast of THE LAST SHIP to create the original cast recording of his new musical. Taye Diggs was the 2014 Skin Cancer Foundation Gala's Master of Ceremonies. Sting kicked off the event, performing three songs -- 'Every Breath You Take,' 'The Night the Pugilist Learned How To Dance,' from his new Broadway musical The Last Ship which opens October 26 at the Neil Simon Theatre, and 'Message in a Bottle.' Last Saturday night, the cast of JERSEY BOYS welcomed The Last Ship to Broadway. So last night, the cast of The Last Ship serenaded their neighbor on 52nd street with a rendition of Lionel Richie's 'All Night Long' led by 16-time GrammyAward-winner Sting.
