This past week The Public Theater celerbrated their 2015 Summer Gala, which included a special performance of the free Shakespeare in the Park production of THE TEMPEST, featuring a cast that included Sam Waterston and Jesse Tyler Ferguson and directed by Michael Greif. The summer gala also honored Bernard Spitzer (1924-2014) and Anna Spitzer for their extraordinary support over several years. Jo Parsons is swapping lead roles in the critically acclaimed, award-winning musical Thrill Me: The Leopold & Loeb Story as it returns to London, at Greenwich Theatre from yesterday 8 April, and tours the UK for the very first time. Musicals have come from various sources. There has been the tale of an illiterate flower girl who was transformed into a proper woman (MY FAIR LADY), a Biblical Jewish youth who became a leader in Egypt (JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT), a prince who kept searching for his corner of the sky until he realized that it was right where he was (PIPPIN), and a big nosed sassy New York girl who transformed herself into a famous vaudeville star (FUNNY GIRL).
This is the time of year that theatres are looking for productions to attract large audiences in order to bring some extra money into the coffers. BECK, for a number of years did BEAUTY AND THE BEAST for their holiday show. This year they opened the classic ANNIE.
Edward Hall's critically acclaimed production of Chariots of Fire is now booking at the Gielgud Theatre to 2 February 2013. Since transferring to the West End in May this year for a previously announced limited run, Chariots of Fire has been championed by Olympians past and present who have joined theatregoers in applauding this inspirational tale of hope, honour and belief.
