John Guare is an American playwright and screenwriter. He is best known as the author of The House of Blue Leaves and Six Degrees of Separation. Broadway: Carousel; Hello, Dolly! There Papp created a year-round producing home to focus on new plays and musicals. Recent work includes A Doll's House, Part 2; David Cale's We're Only Alive for a Short Amount of Time (Goodman Theatre); Romeo et Juliette (Metropolitan Opera); Alexei Ratmansky's Romeo and Juliet (The Bolshoi Theatre); Shen Wei's Neither (BAM); and Richard Nelson's Uncle Vanya (Hunter College).
