When I wrote my book, Women Writing Musicals: The Legacy that the History Books Left Out, the first-ever book about female musical theatre writers, I researched many musicals that are in this genre as well.

Bethe Austin Completes Starry CHARLOTTE SWEET Concert at Feinstein's/54 Below

As previously announced, Feinstein's/54 Below will welcome The Second Act Series back to their stage with a one-night-only concert of the much-loved musical Charlotte Sweet. Complete casting has been announced for the much-anticipated concert. Bethe Austin (Onward Victoria, Whoopee!, Noises Off, Raggedy Ann) will play Cecily Macintosh, with narration by Mara Beckerman, who originated the role of Charlotte in its original production.

In 1980, a musical based on the beloved novel Flowers For Algernon, by Charles Strouse and David Rogers, opened on Broadway. Though it ran for less than month, Strouse's wonderful score was recorded by the London company and has lived on in vinyl. For one night only, Second Act Concerts will present the haunting score in a concert at Feinstein's/54 Below.

A one-night-only concert reading of ONWARD VICTORIA will be presented at Feinstein's/54 Below on Tuesday, July 19th at 7:00pm. Taboo star Liz McCartney (Annie, Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia and more) will join the previously announced Lenny Wolpe, Bethe Austin, Branch Fields and more. Wolpe and Austin both appeared in the original production and will reprise their roles. The short-lived 1980 musical chronicles the first female candidate for President of the United States.
