The Curious Savage

Money meets mental illness in Stray Dog Theatre’s enjoyable The Curious Savage. The opening production of the company’s 23rd season was written by John Patrick who brought it to the New York stage in 1950.

The Curious Savage, written by John Patrick, is a heartwarming and poignant comedy that explores the intersection of wealth, mental health, and human kindness. Set in a sanatorium for those seeking mental health care, the play centers on a spirited widow, Ethel P. Savage, who has inherited a fortune and, much to the dismay of her adult children, decides to use the money for the betterment of others rather than for their gain.

Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) announces the second staged production of its 2017-18 Winter/Spring Season, Wendy Wasserstein's satire Old Money directed by Karen MacDonald at the Sorenson Center for the Arts, Babson College, 231 Forest Street in Wellesley, MA.

In the vast realm of theatre, there are shows of all moods and temperaments to be found. Recently, it can sometimes seem difficult to find a show that prides itself on a cast of characters that inspire nothing but joy and help to convey messages of love and self-exploration. The Curious Savage opens Friday, July 15th and plays 4 weekends through Sunday, August 7th, 2016. Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 2:00pm, with a 'Pay What You Will' performance (proceeds are shared between the cast and crew) on Thursday, July 28th, at 7.30pm. Unbound Productions Executive Director Jonathan Josephson, Artistic Director Paul Millet, and Producing Artistic Director Jeff G. Rack have announced the cast for the World Premiere Wicked Lit installation of Algernon Blackwood's THE DOLL, adapted by Rack and directed by Millet (July 11-26, 2014; Fridays-Sundays, 7:00 p.m., 8:15 p.m., and 9:30 p.m.): Asia Aragon (Unbound Productions debut), Jennifer Novak Chun (The Lurking Fear, The Masque of the Red Death Experience, and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow - Wicked Lit2013), Amelia Meyers (Unbound Productions debut), Tanya Mironowski (The Unnamable, Wicked Lit 2010, 2011), and Andrew Thatcher (Wake Not the Dead, Wicked Lit 2012). The play will be performed as a full production in and around Strub Mansion (a 100-year-old Italianate Beaux Arts home) on the campus of the historic Mayfield Senior School of the Holy Child Jesus in Pasadena.

Set in French Guiana, a region where on Christmas Eve the temperature has graciously dropped to 104 degrees, three amiable convicts are employed as roofers above the Ducotel's general store. The roof winds up being the least of the family's troubles.
