Out of a sense of homegrown spirit and pride, Nickel City Opera enlisted the 27 time ASCAP award winning composer, Persis Vehar to set a libretto to music based on the assassination of President William McKinley at the 1901 Pan American Exposition by Polish-American dissident and self proclaimed anarchist Leon Czolgosz. Commissioned by Dr. Judith Wolf and written by librettist Gabrielle Vehar, 'SHOT!' dramatizes the events before, during and after President McKinley's death providing the flavor of Buffalo in 1901 including actual songs that were written about the Pan American Exposition and its' relationship to Buffalo.

The 5th Avenue Theatre presents an exciting new 'revisal' of the sweeping saga Lerner & Loewe's PAINT YOUR WAGON. Featuring an all-new book by Pulitzer Prize nominee John Marans, this show has taken an incredible journey over the last five years from developmental workshops to The 5th Avenue stage this season. This campy, comedic morning featuring the popular comic operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan is sure to send kids off singing the catchy tunes by the famous duo. Favorite songs include "I am a Pirate King!" and "I am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General." This production for kids, led by the Symphony's new Assistant Conductor Roger Kalia, is appropriate for all ages, but especially those ages 5-11. It includes costumes, scenic elements and projected visuals, and features both professional singers and talented students from Chapman University. The script was written and directed by Peter Atherton, and the role of the Pirate King is played by Symphony favorite, baritone David Stoneman.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, the ultimate American theater classic about life and love lessons, Thornton Wilder's Our Town, will open at the Apollo Civic Theatre. Directed by Amanda Hartman, Our Town is a slice of small town life over a decade in Grover's Corners. The town citizens reveal every day problems and pleasures while the central story focuses on the lives of two families, the Webbs and Gibbs, as they eventually join together as George Gibbs and Emily Webb become romantically involved.
